PBI Fiber’s GDOT Broadband OMC Project Wins Best Utilities Project at 2026 P3 Awards
PBI Fiber is proud to announce that the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) Statewide Broadband Operations, Maintenance and Commercialization (OMC) Project has been named Best Utilities Project at the 2026 P3 Awards, one of the infrastructure industry’s most prestigious recognitions. The award was presented at the P3 Awards ceremony in New York City on October 1, 2026.
The award recognizes the innovative public-private partnership between GDOT and PBI Fiber to deliver a transformative broadband network across the state of Georgia. The project involves the installation of approximately 1,400 miles of conduit and fiber optic cable along Georgia’s interstate corridors, supporting both GDOT’s transportation operations and future connected transportation technologies while creating new commercial broadband opportunities across the state.
Under the long-term partnership, PBI Fiber is responsible for operating, maintaining and commercializing the network while GDOT retains ownership and oversight. The model transfers commercial and financing risk to the private sector, creates a revenue-sharing opportunity for the state, and provides a scalable platform to support broadband expansion, economic development and long-term network sustainability.
According to the P3 Awards judges, the project was recognized as “an outstanding and highly innovative P3 model” that demonstrates how public agencies can align incentives while maintaining public ownership and limiting technology risk. Judges also highlighted the project’s impressive scale and its potential to serve as a model for transportation agencies seeking to deploy broadband infrastructure.
“We are honored to see this groundbreaking partnership recognized with a P3 Award,” said Scott Jamieson, General Manager, PBI Fiber. “This award reflects the vision and commitment of our partners at GDOT and the dedication of everyone involved in delivering this innovative project.”
The statewide network will support GDOT’s traffic operations and intelligent transportation systems while providing commercial broadband capacity for hyperscalers, internet service providers and other users. The network’s reach across Georgia will help improve broadband accessibility, strengthen digital infrastructure and support future economic growth.
